Lakeshore Horizons Project Launches Community Information Sessions on Future Growth

(11 June 2025)

The Centre for Cities (C4C) at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law is proud to officially launch Horizons, a transformative, three-year partnership with the Municipality of Lakeshore focused on shaping the future of growth in the region. As the fastest-growing municipality in Windsor-Essex, Lakeshore is navigating rapid population increases and evolving housing needs. Horizons aims to support this growth by bringing residents directly into the conversation—ensuring that housing, land use, infrastructure, and environmental planning reflect local priorities and values.

The project kicks off with three public information sessions this June, offering Lakeshore residents an opportunity to learn about Horizons, connect with key themes, and help shape the next stage of community workshops. These sessions will explore how to build vibrant, walkable neighbourhoods, protect natural and agricultural lands, and balance economic development with environmental stewardship. Future engagement activities will help guide updates to Lakeshore’s Official Plan and Zoning By-law, as well as the implementation of the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.

This initiative marks the first formal project under the new Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Windsor and the Municipality of Lakeshore. C4C is honoured to lead this collaborative effort, which exemplifies how academic-community partnerships can drive sustainable development, strengthen democratic engagement, and support inclusive growth for generations to come.

All sessions will be held at the Atlas Tube Rec Centre in the Renaud Room (447 Renaud Line Rd, Belle River, ON). The sessions are open to the public.
